Dr. Heaton completed her family practice residency at Ohio State University after graduating from the Michigan State University School of Osteopathic Medicine. She has been a faculty member at Ohio State, the University of Michigan, and finally left the Big 10 for New Jersey where she worked in a community residency program until the founding of the Department of Family Medicine at the New Jersey Medical School-UMDNJ in 1991. Dr. Heaton has been the director of Predoctoral Education since '91, and her primary clinical interests are the primary care of patients with disabilities and evidence-based medicine. Dr Heaton is an Associate Professor of Clinical Family Medicine and has been a member of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine since 1985. As chair of the Membership Committee, Dr. Heaton became a Board Member this year. Dr. Heaton lives in Montclair, NJ with her husband Stephen and two boys.
